How would you like to grow with a nick name like Cowbones??? Well, it started because I was nothing but skin and bones at slightly teen years… Reddish blonge hair, skinny, freckles, scrawney hair, blue eyes and nothing more to offer life as far as my big brother says. So, thus became the name Cowbones…

I can’t tell you how many times I chased my brother with murder in my mind. Today, 53 years later, I am the cow! Well, not quite… I’m on a diet and have lost 23 pounds as of June 1st! Woohoo…

Okay, let’s go way back… I think the reason I like old cemetaries is because when I was very young, we visited our family cemetary. Many old graves. I revisted them from time to time as I grew up. It’s always intrigued me. Who were they, afterall, they were real people living real lives at one time or another.

Once my brother and I who were both under 10 ran throug our family cemetary. My right foot feel througth the dirt! It was such a shock to me. I had intruded upon someones resting place. Yet, I was curious. Exactly who were they, what were there lives about? Did they love, laugh, cry? It tought me to respect the dead, then, telsl there story…

Part two coming soon…

One year all eight of us kids were so bad that year that Dad decided to punish us. Since he’d already hidden all the toys in the car trunk for months, he was in a dilemma. He decided to switch the gifts. The girls would get boy toys and the boys would get girl toys and no one was allowed to exchange gifts…

Wow! I really did love that police car that had flashing red lights once you wound it up. Simply wound the car up and watch it speed away, it was great… God I wish you could have saw how those Chihuaua’s ran from the lights and sounds of that most wonderful Christmas toy! Guess I didn’t learn much that year.

Wow, we had gone back to Hyden, Kentucky ¬†and I was about 8 years old. There was this old family store and I had five cents in my collection. I put the nickle in the machine but it took awhile for the money to register and my pink diamond to drop into the little slot in it’s plastic bubble.

I waited, and waited, waited… Then saw my parents driving off! Yes, they had forgot one of there own. One of many. Yet, they stopped, backed up and waited patiently while I collected my pink diamond ring, adjustable that is…

I still love costume jewelry to this day!

What memories! This one involves giving birth to a baby in my most difficult times of my life. My father was killed when I was 17 and Victoria was born two months later. Between Darvons being given to a pregnant women and hard times, I’m not sure where to start so how about I start this thread on another day. “Vicky”, I love you baby!

Remember when?

I do! I remember a white room. Everyone was dressed in white. Although I could not see clearly, I remember.

I remember the sweeping motion of being tossed upside down and the pain of crying with my first breath.

I remember the warmth of my mothers cuddling arms and nothing more! However, that is my birth!

Wow, I remember when Barbara Ann was born. What a day! We were taken to the hospital but because mom had so many babies, 7 at the time, we stood outside Clark County Memorial Hospital. I saw my mom looking out a window holding a new born from somewhere stories high in the sky.

When this little girl came home, she had brown hair, brown eyes and dark skin. Within a few weeks, she looked just like me!!! Blonde hair, blue eyes and pale skin. Since then, she had gone back to the dark hair, eyes and skin… oh well…

So be it for parents that have mixed blood in all the other recipes that make us all Americans. We adjust and blend. lol’s

It was around 1958 and I was about three at the time. We lived in Eastern Kentucky, I believe it was Hyden. One of my fondest memories was, I had this little tea cup and saucer. I sat in the rocker on the front porch feeling most lady like, pretending to drink from my fancy tea cup. I remember my mom and dad stepping outside, their arms wrapped around each other and so in love, they said, ” just look at her, such a little lady.”

Til this day, I remember how good that made me feel. To be told you are a lady at 3 is way to cool!
